Inclusive classrooms for 2SLGBTQI+ learners
In a recent survey, over 4,000 students in grade eight through 12:
• 30% of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer kids had been cyberbullied compared to only 8 percent of cisgender heterosexual respondents.
• 64% had heard daily or weekly remarks that were homophobic, biphobic or transphobic.
To practice inclusivity, teachers and parents are encouraged to seek out and include inclusive classroom materials, create a safe learning environment where kids can confide in you, use accurate and respectful communication, demonstrate a willingness to learn and try to find and network with supportive others who have helpful resources and solid strategies to experience success.
